THE IDEA

Yes. Ruminate lets you send notes to its number through SMS and retrieve the saved entries in the companion app. Instead of using a conversation with yourself as the final destination, you use a familiar text conversation to capture information for an organized, searchable collection.

Start with the message you would send yourself

A book recommendation, a measurement, or a thought from a conversation can disappear before you decide where to put it. Texting yourself is a natural response: the messaging app is familiar and the thought only takes a sentence.

Ruminate builds on that habit. After setting up your account and registered phone number, save the Ruminate number as a contact. Send your note to that contact from your registered number. You do not have to open Ruminate to create the entry.

Let the note become part of your vault

Ruminate saves the message as an entry you can revisit. With your permission and the relevant plan features, AI processing helps organize the information. The app is where you browse and search what you have sent.

Open the saved entry to check that the information you meant to keep is present. A name, title, or measurement matters more than writing a polished note. Optional personal context—who recommended the book or why it interested you—gives you another useful clue later.

Find it by a detail you remember

When you need the recommendation, open Ruminate and search for Children of Time or Tchaikovsky. Search uses the saved words; it does not require remembering the date of the message.

Use specific terms that appear in the entry. If a broad search returns several results, try a distinctive name or phrase. This is keyword retrieval, so do not assume an unrelated description will find a note that never contained those words.

Can I send more than plain text?

Ruminate also supports workflows for links, images, receipts, and voice notes. Those inputs need different processing: a voice recording is transcribed, while readable text in a screenshot can be extracted using #capture on a plan that includes it.

You still use the same contact to send the information. Choose the guide for the type of material you want to save so you can use the right command and check the result.

Do I still need the Ruminate app?

Yes. Messages handles capture; the companion app handles browsing, searching, and export. Ruminate does not turn your existing Messages history into a searchable vault or automatically import conversations you have not sent to it.

Start with one recommendation you would otherwise text yourself. Save it, find it once in Ruminate, and you have practiced the complete workflow.

Keep the next thing worth remembering.
